Joe Hockey: Rudd Lite – update III
November 29th, 2009
Joe Hockey is nearly as pathetic as Kevin Rudd. One moment he is a God fearing conservative, the next minute a self-described ‘progressive’ and now we have him meeting with John Howard:

Probably a Rudd-styled shameless media stunt in some vain attempt at winning over conservatives. He’s not fooling anyone. He has already made his bed with another Rudd Lite – MT on carbon taxation. Talk of Hockey as a ‘consensus’ candidate is absurd.
UPDATE
There was some talk about Hockey’s so called pre-conditions for leadership on ABC’s Insiders this morning. Well here are some conditions:
1. The public release and audit of the IPCC’s data, models and predictions,
2. If the science stands-up, then a full cost-benefit analysis of the best response to AGW – aka Copenhagen Consensus in which carbon taxation ranked as the least effective response to AGW.
UPDATE II
Hockey has become a media tart – as they push his claim for leadership. The MSM will typically push the most left-wing candidate.
UPDATE III
Sympathetic articles are coming in hard and fast from the ABC and the Fairfax Press for Hockey and Turnbull, like this one exploring Turnbull’s acting career while at high school. Completely irrelevant to carbon taxation, but designed to show the human side of MT. Pathetic ABC propaganda.
More coverage of the ABC’s attempt to get the most left-wing candidates across the line in the impending Liberal Party leadership vote.
The time has come
November 29th, 2009
I’m back. As I was writing earlier this week, Liberal Party dissidents opposed to carbon taxation should leave the Liberal Party and join the National Party, unless MT can be ousted. Now Senator Cory Bernardi, who is on our side, has admitted on ABC Lateline that he is receiving thousands of emails from Liberal Party faithful wanting the National Party to run candidates against the Liberal Party so they can vote National, because of their stance against carbon taxation.
MT and Joe Hockey have become an unmitigated disaster for the Liberal Party. Tony Abbott has finally maned-up by agreeing to challenge MT for the leadership next week. Kevin Andrews has been the real leader in all of this, but getting rid of MT and his socialist cohort is the number one priority, regardless of who replaces them.
The biggest lie in all of this, is that opposing carbon taxation will make the Liberal Party irrelevant, as MT and Joe Hockey have been saying. However, supporting carbon taxation would be a slap in the face of Liberal Party values of small government and low taxation – which the vast majority of Australians support!! No body, except die-hard socialists, want a multi-billion dollar re-distribution of income via taxation and carbon derivative markets that will have no measurable positive impact on the natural environment, or serve no general public good. Apart from undermining national wealth and standard of living, carbon taxation will only satisfy the socialist sycophants running a muck in the media and in the leadership of both major political parties.
I know it is stupidly early, but…

With all the Sarah Palin hopenchangin’ going on right now, selling nearly 500,000 copies of her book in the first week, one might be surprised to learn that in a recent poll Romney tied with Obama, while Palin was behind. I think people are looking for a little less hopenchangin’ going rougin’, and a little more of boring competent technocrat deliever on jobsandeconomyin’.
There is really only one option – update
November 25th, 2009
Given the importance of the carbon issue and that Andrews lost the ballot, unless another challenge is won in the next two months, then those Liberals that are opposed to the ETS should leave the party and join the National Party to ready themselves for the next election. Ideally, those opposed to the ETS will vote with the National Party to draw a public line in the sand on the philosophical direction of the Liberal Party. Three shadow Parliamentary secretaries have already resigned.
The Liberal Party now looks like a lukewarm progressive socialist party. Joe Hockey even described the Liberal Party as a ‘progressive’ party in the post ballot press conference (Tim Blair has picked up on this issue as well – shows how disingenuous MT in his quest to unify the party along socialist collective principles). The Liberals will go the way of the Democrats, offering no real alternative to the ALP.
UPDATE
More reason for Senators sceptical of the ETS to leave the Liberal Party and join the National Party:
MALCOLM Turnbull has begun heaping pressure on senior Liberal senators to back Kevin Rudd’s emissions trading scheme or face the sack after crushing an attempted leadership challenge yesterday….At least 12 of the 32 Liberals sitting in the Senate appear to be preparing to cross the floor on the emissions trading bills when a Senate vote is finally held
So MT has gone completely off the reservation, as they say. The ETS has become a tool to turn the Liberal Party into a centre-left ‘progressive’ political action group – much like the now extinct Democrats. The Libs will into the future, essentially offer no alternative to the ALP – only shades of grey – by abandoning their classical liberal tradition.
We have now MT saying that:
….his party to move on from the divisions that led to an attempted leadership spill on Tuesday.
With everyone falling in line with MT’s socialist agenda, no doubt. Carbon taxation is not just some issue you move on from – like one big happy family. Reminds me of Monty Python’s Search for the Holy Grail when Launcelot starts killing guests at a wedding on the mistaken idea that a woman was being held hostage in the castle’s tower.
LAUNCELOT: Hello.
RANDOM: He killed my auntie!
[yelling]
FATHER: Please, please! This is supposed to be a happy occasion!
Let’s not bicker and argue about who killed who. We are here today to
witness the union of two young people in the joyful bond of the holy
wedlock. Unfortunately, one of them, my son Herbert, has just fallen
to his death. But I think I’ve not lost a son, so much as… gained
a daughter! For, since the tragic death of her father–
RANDOM: He’s not quite dead!
FATHER: Since the near fatal wounding of her father–
RANDOM: He’s getting better!
FATHER: For, since her own father… who, when he seemed about to
recover, suddenly felt the icy hand of death upon him,…
[ugh]
RANDOM: Oh, he’s died!
FATHER: And I want his only daughter to look upon me… as her own
dad — in a very real, and legally binding sense.
[clapping]
And I feel sure that the merger — uh, the union — between the
Princess and the brave, but dangerous, Sir Launcelot of Camelot…
LAUNCELOT: What?
So what’s MT suggesting, let’s not worry about who sacked who…about who impoverished who…about who cut the power to who…about who taxed who into economic oblivion? The man is either delusional and/or he just doesn’t understand the issue.
Talking point
November 25th, 2009
Just finished watching Kevin Andrews give a press conference. I over heard a journalist say that he considered Andrews did better than he thought he would. However Andrews could have done better when answering a question on whether or not he supports pricing carbon. The line should be the following: “assuming that the science on AGW turns out to support definitive action on limiting carbon emissions, after an audit into IPCC claims, then an ETS would be one of the last things I would recommend as per the Copenhagen Consensus and similar critical analysis for addressing the issue, etc…”
Bring it! – update
November 25th, 2009
I think Abbott has ruled himself out of the leadership running this morning on ABC radio, but Kevin Andrews said this morning on the Alan Jones show that he is a candidate for the leadership. He doesn’t have anything to lose given that he is unlikely to get a shadow portfolio any time soon. Vexnews reports though:
…Malcolm Turnbull’s current intention to brazenly tough it out. His strategy is to crash through or crash, not just on the ETS but also in terms of any potential challenge. His plan is just not to call another party room meeting before Christmas and hope the current tensions go away….
Another explained “There were so many compromises offered by Minchin and others. Malcolm stubbornly ignored them all. Why couldn’t he have offered a conscience vote on the issue for backbenchers? That could have worked.”
I read that as saying that MT’s commitment is to his socialist ETS objective above and beyond party values and principles, and of course the national interest. Looks like MT will stop at nothing at following Rudd in leading the country into economic oblivion. Hence he refuses to allow a leadership vote. I wonder if the party faithful were given a chance to vote on who should be leader if MT would survive?
However when the ETS starts to bite (assuming it is approved), at least a large section of the Coalition will be able to say that they opposed its introduction and MT and all of his left-wing stooges will be out of a job, with the right-side of politics once again taking over the leadership with the intention of taking down the ETS altogether – no concessions no amendments just complete abolition.
UPDATE
Apparently in under an hour MT could have his leadership challenged by Kevin Andrews, just back from the USA. Given the unexpected rise of Andrews, my feeling is that some fence sitting could go MT’s way in the ballot. However there are alternatives.
Should MT win, every MP and Senator that is opposed to the ETS should quit the Liberal Party and join the Nationals, who are opposed to the ETS. This issue is that important. It strikes right at the heart of the Liberal’s economic credibility, and their philosophical pursuit of free markets and free people. If the Liberals support the ETS then they are merely a poor shadow of the ALP-left and will condemn themselves to opposition as the ETS slowly destroys the economy and people’s standard of living.
The worm has turned – update IV
November 25th, 2009
This last fourteen days has been amazing. First we had Lord Monckton exposing on the Alan Jones’ radio programme the world government scam that is the Copenhagen Treaty. Apparently the reaction was so overwhelming that Jones’ agreed to replay the interview along with an interview he had with MIT Prof Lindzen.
Now we have had Climate Gate: the UK’s CRU – the seemingly main conduit for IPCC wisdom – has been exposed as manipulating the climate change science to fit climate change politics. The subdued reaction from certain media quarters to this conspiracy to commit fraud on the public, has seen an explosion of Internet blogging activity on the issue. It is like people are starting to wake up to the issue – finally! It is also timely that it has been reported that:
KEVIN Rudd’s Emissions Trading Scheme will increase the average family’s bills by about $1100 a year.
So much for reducing the cost of living for ‘working families’. Another election commitment gone. Now Rudd will claim that he will re-distribute income from middle to high income earners to low income earners to compensate for the cost of living increase. As if that’s a good thing.
They will be compensated by taxpayers – the Government yesterday vowed nine in 10 poorer households would receive more than what the ETS added to their bills but middle-income families won’t get the same deal.
Yep, these mysterious people called taxpayers. I wonder who they are? And combined with interest rate rises – thanks in part to Rudd’s ’stimulus’ package – middle Australia is going to get done in royally. And then there are the unions:
…miners were quick to speak out against a proposed doubling in assistance for coalminers to $1.5bn in the Rudd governments’ Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.
“The ‘concession’ in the CPRS will mean that the Australian coal sector will pay $12.5bn rather than $14bn in carbon costs to 2020,” Australian Minerals Council chief executive Mitch Hooke said.
“At present there is no prospect that any other major coal producer, including in the European Union and United States, will face any such costs.”
Sorry – what was the bit about WorkChoices? At least these people had well paying jobs under Howard. So now that people are waking up to the realisation of what all this really means – we just need a leader to capitalise on community angst and unfortunately MT is not the answer.
MALCOLM Turnbull last night threatened to quit the Liberal leadership if his party did not back his assessment that a majority of the Coalition supported an emissions trading scheme deal he had struck with the Rudd Government.
Kevin Andrews has apparently put his name forward for the leadership after Wilson Tuckey said he was calling a leadership vote for tomorrow. Unbelievable!! MT could be gone by the end of the week!! I would not be surprised to find MT sitting on the government front bench by the end of the year (okay maybe a little over done). Well, we will see how events pan out. if Abbott puts forward his name for the leadership, then one can assume that MT is as good as gone. Abbott would not seek a vote unless he really thought he could win. And if MT went, so would Bishop and Hockey. It would be a triple win.
The hard reality is that MT is not one of us.He is pushing a piece of legislation that will undermine our wealth and standard of living and by association is letting Rudd get away with it, and doing so for no reason that has yet stood-up to even basic mathematical analysis. Lord Monckton:
To mitigate just 1 C (2 F) of warming, one must forego the emission of 2 trillion tons of CO2. The world emits just 30 billion tons a year. So the analyst, as a thought-experiment, would shut down the entire world economy, emitting no CO2 at all. Even then, and even on the incorrect assumption that the UN’s exaggerated projections of the effect of CO2 on temperature are correct, it would take 67 years to mitigate 1 C warming. Preventing the 3.4 C (6 F) warming that the UN’s climate panel thinks would occur in 100 years would take 225 years without any transportation, and with practically no electrical energy.
In other words, the ETS has nothing to do with ’saving’ the Earth, but more to do with re-inventing old fashioned socialism, and MT wants us to be a part of it.
UPDATE
The recalcitrance within the MSM are just driving frustrated people to the internet to find out what is actually happening. There information lock down is also probably just making people more and more angry and sceptical about the issue. In the US via Newsbusters about Climategate:
…ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, and NBC through Monday evening have completely ignored the subject.
LexisNexis searches indicate that NPR appears to also be part of this news boycott.
Is it any wonder Fox gets more viewers than the rest combined. The same could probably apply here as well. Though there have been late night splatterings of the issue on ‘our’ ABC.
UPDATE II
In the UK from Telegraph blogger Gerald Warner about the reaction from the BBC:
Yet there was something new. BBC Kremlinologists could not fail to notice just a scintilla of unease, reflected in Susan Watts’ relatively open-minded presentation of the issue; above all, the fact that the BBC felt compelled to address the matter at all. Clearly, someone at the BBC realised that this is a global scoop in which the blogosphere has left the Corporation and all the dead-tree media standing. Those media are already facing increasing marginalisation without marginalising themselves by refusing to report news that is viral on the Internet.
….Media organisations like the BBC have betrayed truth and objectivity on this, as so many other issues, so should not be surprised if the public abandons them for open debate online.
So true. The MSM have been pushing the one agenda, the one narrative for years now and just like the Iraq War when in the fullness of time they turn out to be wrong, they go silent hoping to avert attention until they can create a new pet issue. The next issue that allows them to lazily push out article after article of empirically and context bare news, without any thought to fair minded critical analysis or investigative journalism.
UPDATE III
Couldn’t help but notice that the single biggest issue for bloggers, probably for the year, that of Climate(warmer)gate is completely missing from Off Air - the blog where ABC journalists let their socialist hair down and drop any pretensions to balance. It seems the ABC has gone MIA on Climategate, or is it simply a case of duck and cover?
UPDATE IV
More sketchy global warming doomongering science exposed, this time at home thanks to the University of Newcastle via Quadrant Online:
Senior climate change researchers have claimed that higher temperatures lead to higher moisture evaporation and that this is why the Murray Darling Basin has experienced such a harsh drought,” Associate Professor Franks said.
This is incorrect and ignores the known physics of evaporation.
During drought, when soil moisture is low, less of the sun’s radiant energy goes into evaporation and more goes into the heating of the atmosphere which causes higher temperatures.
Most importantly, the elevated air temperatures do not increase evaporation but are actually due to the lack of evaporation and this is a natural consequence of drought.
Therefore any statement that the drought experienced in the Murray Darling Basin is a direct result of CO2 emissions is fundamentally flawed.”
Typical doomongering tactic. Claim your results are supported by scientific consensus, even though the manner in which you reached your results is not supported by a scientific consensus, hence hide or delete the raw data. In this case ’senior climate change researchers’ weren’t tricky enough.
It does seem though that many climate change scientists lack the necessary skills in physics, maths and statistics to executetheir discipline properly. I just remember someone in the climategate email exchanges admitting that he didn’t have the requisite statistical skills to interpret the data.
Justice is still blind in some quarters
November 24th, 2009
Just recently:
AN ABORIGINAL rapist was given too much leniency because of his race and extremely deprived background, the Court of Appeal ruled today.
Justices Marcia Neave and Robert Redlich said the sentence imposed on Rodney Daryl Moore, who raped a woman who was eight months pregnant, was “manifestly inadequate”….
The DPP argued in the appeal that legal precedent dictated that race should play no part in sentencing.
Justices Neave and Redlich said a previous appeal decision had stated “in sentencing persons of Aboriginal descent, the court must avoid any hint of racism, paternalism or collective guilt”.
Next step should be to get rid of Koori Courts and stop Rudd re-establishing ATSIC.
See the irony
November 22nd, 2009
From one undemocratic President to another undemocratic President:
Chinese President Hu Jintao on Saturday sent a message to Belgian Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy to congratulate him on his election as full-time president of the European Union.
Funny, because I don’t recall when the people of the EU had a chance to vote on the matter.
Time for some wild speculation – update II
November 21st, 2009
In case you haven’t been following the latest climatology goings on, it seems someone hacked into the Temple of Delphi University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit, which has been home to some of the most notorious respected climatology doomsayers on planet Earth. You can catch the latest here and here.
Basically it appears that a range of these climate doomsayers have been a bit lose with the truth, as the hackers released a range of what appear to be legitimate emails that expose a conspiracy to commit fraud on the public. Words like ‘trick’, ‘beefed up’, ‘hide the decline’ (in temperature) and ‘I swear I pulled every trick out of my sleeve trying to milk something out of that’, don’t exactly encourage confidence in these shanksters prominent scientific prophets of doom when describing their own data samples that just don’t bloody well fit the climate prophecies! Not too mention conspiring to destroy raw data to avoid third parties being able to check your prophecies seminal scientific conclusions likely to attract significant funding and kudos.
Well anyway, now it is time for some wild speculation. I would not be in the least bit surprised if one Vladimir Putin was behind all of this. Ex-KGB strong man that relies heavily on carbon-rich energy sources could have well approved some type of covert operation to embarrass the doomsayers before the Copenhagen meeting. The hacked data after all was found on a Russian server. Weak I know, but there it is.
UPDATE
Bolt speculates that given the wealth of startling evidence against the global doomsayers, the release of the emails would have to be an inside job. Well maybe partly inside I would say. You would still need access to servers and some one that knew what data to look for. Given the extent of data, someone must have known what to look for and then used someone from the outside to help download and disseminate the information.
UPDATE II
Climate blog ‘Wattsupwiththat’ speculates also on the origins of the data:
CRU was hacked and the data stolen by skilled hackers, perhaps an individual or more insidiously some sophisticated group, such as Russian agents. An insider leaked the information to the NSM (non-mainstream media)
Which is basically what I have already said. This final explanation sounds more plausible:
A few people inside CRU possessed the archive of documents being held in reserve in case the FOI appeal decision was made in favor of Steve McIntyre. They shared it with others by putting it in an FTP directory which was on the same CPU as the external webserver, or even worse, was an on a shared drive somewhere to which the webserver had permissions to access. In other words, if you knew where to look, it was publicly available. Then, along comes our “hackers” who happened to find it, download it, and the rest is history unfolding before our eyes. So much for the cries of sophisticated hacking and victimization noted above.
I certainly though do not believe that the release of the data is some type of trick to catch the AGW opposition out. The data incriminates the CRU for deleting data subject to a FOI request, and if the data did turn out to be fake, then what would that say about the CRU and their potential involvement in a media scam? It would look rather pathetic and would undermine their credibility with the public.
