If Gillard loses this election her political career will be over. She lied to and stabbed Rudd in the back to grab power. She did so on the premise that it was needed to ‘save’ the ALP from election defeat. If Gillard were to lose the election there would be no going back. The only thing she would have to show for her political career would be her superannuation and de facto partner – who is only known for running red lights in Gillard’s Toyota Camry. Really scrapping the barrel in terms of relationships there PM. (I heard an outrageous rumour that both Gillard and her defacto partner are homosexuals in a relationship of convenience).

By contrast no one expected Abbott to be the opposition leader a year ago and an opposition has not defeated a first term government in decades. So expectations are under control. If Abbott loses he will likely assume an opposition front bench role and take solace from his wife and children, the fact that he helped get rid of Rudd and his manly pursuits and hobbies.

Gillard therefore is desperate for victory in a way that many of us cannot imagine. When the pressure starts building Gillard will first stumble, trip and then fall and get up and start lashing out at anyone near by. Much like how Rudd is undermining Gillard now. It will get ugly.

The first signs of this pressure are already beginning to show on Gillard. At a recent press conference about the internet she messed up a range of details, from the election date, Rudd’s electorate, confusing Nauru and East Timor. On the Alan Jones show she couldn’t remember when her corporate tax rate cut was coming into effect. Combined with constant questions about Gillard’s relationship with Rudd, get ready for a boil over at some point.

…and I am becoming more impressed with Andrew Robb.

Secondly, the too much too late argument on Rudd’s stimulus package that I ran back in 2008 onwards. The national audit office has basically come out and said the same thing. It really comes down to how the national accounts and economy work. By the time the stimulus money hit the national accounts the economy was already coming out of the recession we never had. We now face the prospect of spending billions on the interest payment from the cash splurge which will dampen long-term economy growth. Money that could have been used to offer tax cuts or build infrastructure.

So when the ALP talks about sustainable population they apparently are not talking about reducing immigration levels from their record high. So what are they talking about? They don’t have a policy, only motherhood statements and platitudes until after the election when I gather they will simply do what ever they wish. Much like the past 2 1/2 years.

Let’s keep it simple.

Over a year ago Rudd gave Toyota a stack of money they didn’t know what to do with or need, to build Camry hybrids in Australia, because Kevin’s wife once complained the existing hybrids were not Australian made. True story.

Sales of the vehicles have been very slow with the Victorian government the only ones buying the cars. Probably because they make no financial sense for buyers. The average person would have to drive something like 200,000 km before they get their money back on the fuel savings. Not including when the battery inevitably fries when the warranty runs out. That is a $10,000 replacement.

Anyway, in order to boost sales Gillard is giving away $2000 to people with worthless cars to go into debt to buy one of these government funded hybrids. These are cars that cost in excess of $40k.

So let me get this straight. If a person can only afford to drive around in a car worth less than $2000, how are they going to be able to afford a car worth $40,000 – $2,000 = $38,000?

Has the ALP completely lost its mind?!?!? So much for Ford and Holden. According to Gillard you guys better start looking for a new job. Hopefully people in Adelaide are awake to the way Gillard has stabbed her own home town in the back.

There are also a range of balance of payment issues and the impact this initiative could have in creating a boom and bust industry, aka the home insulation industry right now.

Even if the Libs don’t have any money for advertising – a distinct possibility – they could at least jimmy up an ad, hold a press conference to announce the ad and then let it go viral.  Liberal HQ just seems asleep at the wheel.
