The MSM narrative thus far

December 1st, 2009

Ever since Nelson became the the opposition leader after the 2007 election, the MSM had been itching to un-seat him in favour of the more leftist Turnbull. As soon as Turnbull’s position as leader looked threatened the MSM basically anointed the next most left-wing candidate Joe Hockey to be leader. All along completely oblivious to the fact that Tony Abbott was the first to announce his intentions for the leadership on the Alan Jones show last Thursday. In the lead-up to the ballot it was if Abbott did not exist.

Hockey was to be the ‘consensus’ candidate. Where this line came from is unclear. But what was clear to everyone was the fact that Hockey was/is pro carbon taxation and trade and could therefore not be a compromise between Turnbull and Abbott. All along Hockey was just Turnbull MkII. The MSM knew this but ignored it, hoping Hockey would get across the line regardless and everyone would forget about Abbott. Moments before the ballot the MSM suddenly discovered Abbott’s desire to run for the leadership and ran a couple of articles decrying his candidature on the basis of some commitment Abbott supposedly gave not too run. A commitment that only the MSM seemed to know about.

So when Abbott won the ballot, well then shock and horror – an extremist coup had taken place. And well, people are just down right surprised at such a choice. Typical cynical and negative reaction.

Abbott immediately called for a secret ballot on delaying Rudd’s CTT, which Abbott won convincingly. Yet still the ABC is reporting ‘Liberal Turmoil’ and the ABC has already gone into character assassination mode, angry that there candidate of choice was booted out in the first round of voting:

Liberal Party has staggered forth, somewhat to its own surprise, having adopted Tony “People Skills” Abbott as its federal parliamentary leader.

The party has turfed Malcolm Turnbull and ignored the public’s popular choice in Joe Hockey.

So in other words, ‘Abbott is the wrong leader and the Liberal Party does not know what it is doing because they did not choose the candidate we the MSM wanted.’  The ABC discussion panel after the ballot was even more absurd. The ABC commentators basically read out the thoughts of ALP strategists, which is what constitutes journalism these days. Rehashing ALP talking points in front of the camera.
